about
“Bridget” is the first single off of Sweet Magnolia’s debut album, Miss Missed Connection, out June 7th, 2024!
"Hot take, but to me, Bridget is the epitome of a sexy, cool girl's name," says Meg Dwyer, singer of Sweet Magnolia, "So this song was inspired by a friend's cat, who has a similarly sexy, cool girl's name. Her name is Eloise which is decidedly not as easy to fit into lyrics due to syllables etc etc. BUT Eloise got me dreaming of an alter ego I might have one day if I did have a cool, sexy girl's name and a personality to match! You know, that mysteriously classy tattooed woman who seems to never break a sweat?" What resulted is a playful song about having a different persona and the insecurity of wishing you could be someone else. Or in Sweet Magnolia’s case, Bridget.
lyrics
If my name were Bridget
I’d play the flute in a samba band
I’d be tall, wouldn’t sweat at all
Even in the summer
But instead, I give myself up,
I can’t dance and I laugh too much
I sweat, I push, find things tough,
If my name were Bridget would it be enough?
I’d smoke cigarettes, And be coy,
I’d make love in the throws of joy,
Wine instead of High Life’s,
Instead of drive, maybe I’d use my bike?
But instead, I give myself up,
I can’t dance and I laugh too much
I sweat, I push, can’t find love,
If my name were Bridget would it be enough?
Bridget, I wanna be just like you,
Bridget, yeah, just your name could change everything
When I think of you, I feel small,
Being myself might be the right call,
But if I could, you know I would,
Give everything just to have your name
But instead, I give myself up,
I can’t dance and I laugh too much
I sweat, I push, can’t find love,
If my name were Bridget would it be enough?
Bridget, I wanna be just like you,
Bridget, yeah, just your name could change everything
Bridget, I wanna be just like you,
Bridget, yeah, just your name could change everything
Just your name could change everything
Just your name could change everything

Sweet Magnolia blends the genres of powerhouse New Orleans brass with the earworms of pop music. Their songs are a rare
combination of original female storytelling in the brass medium – unapologetically sassy, infectiously fun, and bold. Their debut full-length album, Miss Missed Connection, will be out in June of 2024!...more
